MONAHAN!!!!!

Some quick thoughts now that I’ve had a day to digest Commissioner Monahan’s press conference. He really is the turd in the punch bowl. Doing this on the eve of The Players weekend robs the fans of just some now extremely scarce pure golf enjoyment. In what has been damn near 2 years of this business machination bullshit just shut up and let us enjoy golf for once goddamn it Have the balls to stand up there without a giant distraction right on your heels to divert attention.

Jay is not, nor was ever, a leader. Probably great and sponsor relations and charitable donation fund raisers or whatever he did before being thrust into this job, but he is not decisive, calming, nor confidence inspiring. A true placeholder if there ever was one.

Isn’t it interesting how the 2 leagues have taken on the personalities of their public leaders? LIV comes off as vindictive, angry, petulant, and scorned, Like Norman. The PGA comes off as boring, directionless, flailing and overwhelmed, like Monahan.

Of all the non-answers, double speak, corporate secrets and other nothings that flooded the press conference the one definitive statement made during his opening remarks stunned me. In so many words he equated the surging popularity of the game of golf as an indicator that the sport of professional golf was equally as popular. This had to be a talking point because no sane person could look at the state of pro golf and think “ better than ever!”. Golf the game played by millions, will be healthy and thriving long after pro golf implodes up its own ass. The reason my friends and I get together on weekends in because we enjoy each others company and love to play this game, it’s not because Scottie Scheffler figured out how to putt all of a sudden. Take skiing, enjoyed by millions with record growth within the past decade, did any of you watch it on TV this past weekend? Did you even know they aired skiing on TV during the weekend? Take a long hard look at your future pro golf, you earned it.
